Today You Will Be With Me in Paradise

Today we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. We have been looking at the “Famous Last Words” of Jesus from the cross. When Jesus was crucified two other men were also crucified. One man believed that Jesus was God and the other did not. To the one who asked if Jesus would remember him when he came into his kingdom Jesus responded, “today you will be with me in paradise.” The last day of this man’s life became the first day of his eternal hope.

No one can deny the power of the words we speak. But there is something especially weighty about a person’s last words in this life. As Jesus was giving up His life on Good Friday, He made several short statements from the cross. What would He want to say to us in those final hours? These were not wasted words; they were measured and meaningful. They are words of mercy, forgiveness, hope, and triumph. And if we will receive them, His final words are our new beginning.
